About the Area

Cumnor Parish lies 3.5 miles away from Oxford City in Oxfordshire. It has several communities with distinct and unique identities ranging from the more rural feel of Farmoor, with its close links to the water based activities of Farmoor Reservoir and the rural environment that it sits within; to the closely knit community of Dean Court with its successful mix of affordable and privately owned housing and a thriving hub at Dean Court Community centre. The small village of Cumnor (approx 500 houses) sits at the heart of the Parish and is a designated Conservation Area. It is an extremely diverse parish, and yet manages to bring together all of these communities through its strong primary school, its churches, local voluntary organisations and community projects.

There are numerous venues within the Parish – The Old School, Cumnor Village Hall, Farmoor Village Hall, Dean Court Community Centre, St Andrew’s Church Hall, Cumnor United Reformed Church and Fogwell Road Pavilion which host activities ranging from yoga, Pilates, Women’s Institute, Craft Skill Share Group, Community Choirs, Photography Clubs, Cumnor Gardening Club, Cumnor Players, Toddler Groups, Toddler Messy Play, Baby Music Groups, After-School Clubs, Breakfast Clubs, Ukelele for Beginners – this is just a selection of the activities that are on offer and plays to the diversity of the Parish.

It also has several highly successful sports clubs. The Closes field is home to the Cumnor Minors Football Club which has approx 200 members and Fogwell Field which is home to Botley Boys and Girls Football Club, which has teams for both boys and girls up to the age of 16. Cumnor Cricket Club is one of the most successful cricket clubs in the county, running a very busy schedule and growing some incredible cricketing talent.

There are approximately 2700 dwellings in the parish, housing nearly 7000 residents, 4800 of whom are registered electors. Cumnor Parish is the largest rural community within The Vale of White Horse with almost 75% of the area of Cumnor Parish being farmland.
